What Are The Benefits Of a Ductless AC in NJ?

May. 20, 2020

There are many benefits to having a ductless AC system in New Jersey, but some of the biggest benefits of ductless ACs is that they are:
  • Flexible
  • Energy efficient
  • Easy to install
Throughout this blog, we’ll look at each of these benefits a little more closely, so you can get a better idea of whether the benefits of a ductless AC are worth it for your New Jersey home.

Benefit #1: Flexibility

One of the biggest benefits of installing a ductless AC system is that a ductless system is flexible and customizable. What do we mean by that?

1. Temperature flexibility (Zoning)

When you install a central AC system you have one indoor unit and one outdoor unit that cools your entire home.
On the other hand, when you install a ductless system, you have one outdoor unit and can install up to 7 indoor units, one in each room you want cooled. This allows you to not only determine where you want cool air but what temperature you want that air to be.

For example, with a ductless AC system, you can set your living room temperature to 78 and your bedroom temperature to 75. With a central AC system, you wouldn’t be able to set different temperatures for your living room and bedroom, unless you installed additional infrastructure and multiple thermostats in addition to your central AC system.

2. Placement flexibility

When it comes to installing a central AC system, you usually don’t get a lot of choice on where it’s installed (and you’ll usually get stuck with a very bulky indoor unit that takes up quite a bit of space).

Ductless units, on the other hand, are fairly small and can be placed in a variety of locations like on the ceiling, a wall, or near the floorboards. Instead of taking up an entire storage closet, you can have your indoor AC unit in an area that is not used, like a wall or on the ceiling.

Benefit #2: Energy efficiency

Ductless systems are cheaper to run on a month-to-month basis than central AC systems are.

The main reason that ductless AC systems are more efficient is because they don’t use air ducts.

Most central AC systems lose about 20-30% of the cool air they produce to leaky ductwork, which means you’re losing 20-30% of your money on cool air that leaks into unconditioned areas (attic, crawlspaces, etc) and is wasted.

Since ductless AC systems don’t use ducts, they retain that 20-30% of cool air, making them more efficient than central air conditioners and saving you money on your monthly energy bills.

Benefit #3: Ease of install

Compared to a central AC system, ductless systems are easy to install.

As we mentioned above, ductless AC systems don’t require a duct system, which means they can be installed in a variety of locations, and only require a small hole in the wall to connect the refrigerant lines from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit.

A central AC system relies on a network of ducts to cool your entire home. So, if you don’t already have one or if you need to update your current one, this can be a pretty extensive and expensive project (installing or updating your ducts can cost you anywhere from $2,500 to $5,000+).
